Path of Exile Item Upgrades
The performance of many Path of Exile items can be improved by upgrading their performance. They can be a great source of extra damage or more AD or even more attachments.

Armor
Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be applied to weapon and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item they are attached to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Alternately, they can be rescued from items with upgrade components in them with a professional or higher salvage kit.
The amount of damage an armored piece or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the extent of its upgrades. A piece of armor upgraded to its highest upgrade level will increase its damage absorption. However, it's important to keep in mind that this will increase its weight, causing it to be heavier than before.
There are many different kinds of armor upgrade available in the game. Each has a different effect. Some upgrades give armor an additional number of health points while others make it more powerful and lighter. The type of armor upgrade that an item can receive will be indicated by the name of the upgrade, as illustrated in the table below.
Certain upgrades require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, which are shown by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Certain upgrades require charges to use. Jewels

Each piece of equipment has a slot for an upgrade that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be put into any kind of equipment while jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded and only works with certain kinds of trinkets.
